The photographer says "On April 20th 1999, I was driving by this spot when the report came over the radio about the tragic shootings at Columbine High School. The summer before I was at Columbine photographing their senior graduation photos and had gotten to know some of the staff and students. I returned to take this photo on December 31st in memory of the tragic and horrific events of that day."
