Chan Foo Kee is an 83 year old cobbler who has worked his stall in Pedder Lane for the last 50 years. Over the year I have lived in Hong Kong I have observed him mending shoes amidst the skyscrapers of Hong Kong's central business district. On New Year's Eve Mr Chan laboured away as normal, went home and turned in for bed early. "It's too crowded," he said in Cantonese. "I've seen it many times." - PM
