Hi everyone. The exhibit has been installed at the airport in Chicago and looks great. We found space for all 50 photos that were shortlisted. I took some snaps which I'll add to the news page when I get back to Toronto on Friday. Hope to have an open day for anyone who wants to come by and take a look at the exhibit on Saturday June 9th. Should have that date confirmed by the transit authority on Monday. The discussion board has gotten a bit quiet of late. Anyone still reading??! Anyway, hope everyone's well and that some of you will be able to make it out to Chicago next month. It would be cool to meet up! Take care...

Like Connie, I'd love to attend but would hope that a number of us can make it. Anyone else thinking of going to Chicago for the exhibit? I'd like to know if Alx and Yahoo are planning any sort of special reception with publicity and the press present. If anything were published in the press, we could always take it back home with us for publicity.

The plans are for an open day, fairly low key and informal, to which the local press and photographers will be invited. Coffee and muffins if it's during the day, wine and cheese if it's evening. I expect there will be around 20 people but it could be more than that. If it's anything like the trade show we had in New York, we may end up going for drinks or some kind of meal later in the evening. Again, very informal and laid back. I'm *still waiting for the airport to confirm the date however.

Hi Everyone, I will not be able to make it to Chicago for the event but I hope you have a big turn out and a lot of fun. I did when I met Alx for the Book Signing out here in the LA area. The books are still slow in coming and I wish I would get my last 10 books already that I ordered in Dec. Have a great celebration. The book is a big accomplishment for the world.

Just a message to say good luck with the exhibit at Chicago Airport - oh to be there. Alas! New Zealand is just a wee bit far away though. I was really pleased to receive my book and it now sits proudly on our coffee table - it has been flicked through often and no doubt will continue to be looked at and admired by all who come by our place. Of course, of particular interest with visitors seems to be the pics of their respective countries and of course for Kiwis, our own wonderful city (which I have bookmarked). Tell me, are all of the other photographs (the time capsule ones)going to be available on the 'net? Once again, best of luck and I'm sure the photographs will create heaps of interest both with photographers and public alike. Regards, Sher

Sheryl, the plan is to include all the time capsule photos on the website at a later date, once most of the books have been sold. The idea is that having them available 'for free', does not affect sales of the book.

What a pity! I would attend it, if the reception was postponed to mid July. You know,I am admitted by the University of Minnesota. I am planning to arrive in Chicago in July 15, before enrolling in twin cities. Many thanks to all on this board who has assisted me on my application!

Maria, I'm not sure I know what you mean when you say the 'capsule book'. If you mean the main 'Dawn of the 21st Century', it is available online at amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com. If you mean a book containing the time capsule photos, there are no plans to create one, just a website of the photos at a later date. I hope that answers your question! Erica, to answer your question, the books are on sale at the newstand within the exhibition area, and we will also have some with us at the opening reception for half price for anyone who wants them.

Hi Cecilia, Good to know someone else from Belo Horizonte is with the project. How come you didn`t say hi? I took a picture of a flower on a building here in Belo Horizonte, you can find it on my website(www.carlosphoto.com.br)under new. Can you guess where was it taken? Speaking of pictures, Alx, may I use the picture from the airport on a reportage about the exhibit?

Well, I've made reservations to be in Chicago on June 9th and looking forward to meeting as many of the MPP contributors as can make it. It should be a great gathering. Also, to let the sales staff know, I did receive credit on my VISA card for the books that were accidently charged to my account, over $300 worth. Thanks for you assistance. D

Hello all! I'm very glad that our project live. Sorry I can't be in Chicago. There I could meet not only MPP photographers, also Anna Wodecki and Alison B. Shanefield, the editors Encyclopadia Britannica. With which I have exchanged my photos for checks of money. Alx, can I hope to get another pair of books for half of prices? I need it for gift. Val.

Thanks for that Alx (re the time capsule). I guess I was just being impatient. We in New Zealand aren't lucky enough to have a strong $1.00. In fact, to purchase copies of the book you need to be relatively rich. Our dollar is equivalent to only $US0.42c which makes it difficult to expend that kind of money and on top of that the price of the freight. If I was living near by in the USA or Canada I am sure every single one of my family would have ended up with a copy for Christmas (and they would have adored it). I shall keep an eye on this site just in case there's a huge sale going to happen. Cheers from down under

Dear Alx, This is a matter of regret that still now I haven't received the Book. All of my details are given below : Millennium Photographer : Shuvam Biswas Millennium Photo ID# : 4573 – 1 4573 - 2 4573 – 3 No. 1 & 2 selected in Time Capsule and No. 3 selected in Book Collection Mailing address filed : Shuvam Biswas Official Photographer of the Millennium 67/5/3, College Rd. PO-B. garden Howrah West bengal 711103 India Order No. for Free Book : 1522 dt. 17th Nov., 2000 Confirmation of Shipping : 4th Dec. 2000 and Shipping mode is World Zone 3 by Surface Mail I have already contacted Connie on 9th April, 2001 and she gave me reply on 10th where she suggested to write to Karen Hazzard. I have also wriiten her regarding this matter twice on 10th april and 28th April, 2001. But till today I haven’t received any reply from her. I had contacted some of the Indian Millennium Project Photographers and it is very much unfortunate that most of them till now did not receive the book. We are all really very much fed up with you. It is nice to hear that you are organizing an Exhibition at Chicago Airport but I think you must put your best attention on the Millennium Photographers first whether all of the eligible photographers have at least received the book. That should be your top most priority, isn't it ? Shuvam Biswas India

Dear Shuvam, I hear what you are saying and I sympathize. All I can say is this. Mother Pickle Distributing are a professional third-party book distribution company that we hired last year to provide the service of mailing books to the photographers and provide a 'reasonable' level of customer service. There have been many complaints about book deliveries (and quite a few compliments too) and I have repeatedly asked them to intervene in individual problem cases, even so far as me personally getting involved in many situations. I am in a difficult position however. They are under contract to provide the distribution service and although I have repeatedly written to them to complain about levels of customer service, they ARE our distribution company and it would be extremely problematic to switch distribution companies at this stage, particular with so many packages already in transit and ongoing e-mail correspondence in progress. It is very difficult for me these days to intervene directly in cases because I am the only one working on the project from HQ. I am sorry to say this but if you have ordered a free book which you have not received you MUST take it up with Mother Pickle Distributing and Karen Hazzard directly (sales@millenniumphoto.com). Alternatively try their direct e-mail address at books@motherpickle.on.ca. I realize this may seem like passing the buck but I don't know what else to say. I must also add that deliveries to India are known to be very problematic. I read somewher that up to 75% of packages sent to India from U.S. internet companies never arrive at their destination. We obviously cannot afford to re-send expensive books that get lost in the mail in this way.

Dear Friends, Alx late last night confirmed the time for the reception in Chicago. It remains unchanged from the way he included it in the invitation that went out to everyone about the event. That is to say, the reception will be held from 12 - 2:00 PM in the Rotunda, departures area, Terminal 5, at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on Saturday, June 9th. As you might expect, I am quite overwhelmed with e-mals from you at the moment. Keep sending them though, as I love hearing from you and please be patient, I will respond.

Connie, I've been busy trying to peddle "Liz Larrabee's Book"...a time consuming job when you have to do it all yourself. What would it take to drag you all down to the Tampa area for a get together? Liz Hint: http://members.aol.com/Lizlarrabe/myhomepageBOOK.html

Shuvam, further to my earlier message, I have today reached agreement with Mother Pickle Distributing regarding customer service issues. They will slowly be winding down their involvement as our internet distributor but they will look after all customer service for any existing orders in progress. If you address your correspondence to either of the two e-mail addresses above (they both go to the same place), you should receive a satisfactory resolution.
